Overview
Identity Hint is a Singpass Login enhancement that makes it easier for returning users to identify and log in to their Singpass account.
When a user accesses Singpass Login from a browser they have successfully logged in with before, Singpass may display the user’s name on the login page.
This helps the user confirm that they are logging in to the correct account before authentication begins. Their Singpass ID can also be pre-filled, with the relevant login method made available.
Important: Seeing a name on the Singpass Login page does not mean the user is already logged in. Users must still authenticate every time they access a Singpass service.
What do partners need to do?
No action is required from partners.
Identity Hint operates entirely within the Singpass Login layer. There are no changes required to your end.
Your application will continue to receive the same authentication response and user information as before.
What will users experience?
For returning users, Singpass may display their name when they reach the Singpass Login page.
Identity Hint can help users:
- Confirm that they are logging in to the intended Singpass account.
- Avoid having to enter their Singpass ID again.
- Access the appropriate login method more quickly.
- Identify a wrong account before completing authentication, particularly when using a shared device.
Users will still need to authenticate before they can access your service.
When will Identity Hint appear?
Identity Hint may appear when Singpass recognises a browser where the user has previously completed successful Singpass logins.
There is no opt-in required from users or partners.
Identity Hint will not appear in certain situations:
| Situation | Expected behaviour |
|---|---|
| Private or incognito browser window | Identity Hint will not be displayed |
| Singpass Face Verification Kiosks | Identity Hint will not be displayed |
| Browser used by many different users | The browser may be treated as a public/shared browser and Identity Hint will not be displayed |
| First-time login on the browser | Identity Hint will not be displayed as there is no prior login history |
Public vs private browsers
Singpass determines whether a browser is likely to be used privately or shared among multiple users.
A private browser is one identified as being used by a single person or a small group of users. Identity Hint may be displayed on these browsers.
A public browser is one identified as being used by many different users, such as a shared device or kiosk. Identity Hint will not be displayed on these browsers.
For public agencies operating kiosks with Singpass Face Verification, Identity Hint will automatically be deactivated when kiosk mode is active or when the system detects that the device is shared by multiple users.
End-user FAQs
Partners may refer users to the following Singpass AskGov FAQs if they have questions about Identity Hint.
Why is my name shown on the login page?
If you’ve logged in on the same browser a few times before, Singpass may recognise it to help you log in faster. For example, if you use a passkey, it may appear as your login option.
Your login credentials are never stored, and you’ll still need to authenticate every time you log in.
For more information: Why is my name shown on the login page?
Does this mean I stay logged in?
No. Seeing your name on the login page does not mean you’re logged in. You’ll still need to authenticate to access your account.
Singpass only displays your name if you’ve logged in on the same browser a few times. Your login credentials are never stored, and your account security is not affected.
For more information: Does this mean I stay logged in?
Is my name or NRIC stored on my device?
No. Singpass does not store your NRIC or login credentials on any device.
Your name is displayed because you’ve logged in using the same browser before. You’ll still need to authenticate to access your account.

How do I remove my name from the login page?
If you don’t want your name to be displayed on a particular browser, you can remove it from the Singpass Login page.
To remove your name:
- Select Not me next to your name.
- Select Forget me.
- Select Forget me on this browser.
Your name will no longer be shown on that browser.

Why is someone else’s name showing on my login page?
You may see another person’s name if they previously logged in using the same browser — for example, on a shared device or if you helped a family member log in.
To log in to your own account:
- Select Not me next to the name shown.
- Select Switch.
- Log in using your own Singpass account.
If you log in again using the same browser, Singpass may show your name for future logins.
Seeing another person’s name does not grant you access to their account. Everyone must still authenticate every time they log in.
For more information: Why is someone else’s name showing on my login page?
Why does my name appear in some apps but not others?
Each app may use its own in-app browser, which is treated separately from other apps and from your device’s regular browser.
Singpass will only display your name where there is sufficient previous login history for that particular browser.
It is therefore normal for your name to appear when logging in through one app or browser but not another.
Passkey login issues
Why can’t I log in with my passkey on this browser?
The passkey used must belong to the person currently shown on the Singpass Login page.
If the user needs to log in as a different person:
- Select Not me next to the name shown.
- Select Switch.
- Log in using the correct Singpass account.
If the user is still unable to use their passkey, they can try another available login method, such as QR Login, Face Verification, or SMS One-Time Password (OTP).
If the issue persists, users may contact the Singpass Helpdesk for assistance.
